Happy 2022 from ArchForKids!
We hope your 2022 has gotten off to a great start! We began the year by taking a look back at all the growth we experienced during 2021. While the pandemic was still a major factor, we were able safely begin in-person programming again over the summer. We held dozens of library workshops and started our in-school residencies again during the 2021 fall semester. Last year also saw the updated design of our logo, more grant-funded programs like the Vacant Lot Transformation in Sleepy Hollow and a guest appearance by our Founder Janny Gédéon on the But Why?A Podcast for Curious Kids series produced by Vermont Public Radio.
We look forward to 2022 being even more exciting than last year. We have already begun working on some incredible in-school residencies and afterschool programs and have made some new partnerships bringing ArchForKids programming to new students in all of the boroughs – including Staten Island!

NYC Through the Ages
During a 10 week in-school residency at Queens’ PS232 Elementary School we worked with 3rd graders to produce a timeline of iconic and historical buildings in New York. We explored the architectural history of our city from the 1600’s all the way to the current era.
The students worked hard to create great models inspired by the real edifices – from pre-colonial wigwams and longhouses to historical homes such as the Morris-Jumel Mansion or Van Cortlandt House all the way to the very iconic structures such as the Empire State Building and Grand Central Terminal and the more recent One World Trade Center. Through the lens of architectural history students learned about the lives of the people who designed and created the structures as well as the context surrounding why they were built.
The residency ended with a chronological timeline presentation stretched through the hallway of the school. You can view photos of the project, in this Flickr album.
